You don’t even have to leave the Pacific Highway to find The Salty Dog Seafood Cafe and Gallery. It’s in Coolongoolook, which, at about three hours north of Sydney, is perfectly placed for a lunch pit stop on your way up the coast. I discovered it in back in 2012, and it hasn’t let me down yet. While the weekend menu is usually more exciting and extensive, on a rainy Wednesday morning they still managed to put out a chalkboard menu boasting four different local fishes – flathead, blackfish, mullet and whiting. Wow, totally agree what a find! Well worth the stop. Fish is super fresh, hamburgers are huge and salads are just enough to fill the hole. <br/

Simple, consistent, focused. Delicious fish chips. Great batter. Like exceptional batter. Super fresh, better than most fish places in Sydney. Delightful.
