After finishing our meal, we moved the cake stands to the side to allow for easier conversation, but no one came to clear our table despite it being cluttered with dishes. This neglect made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. I have been a patron of the Quay Hotel for many years and have never left with a negative impression until now. This experience has made me reconsider choosing this hotel for my wedding.
Food is beautiful served, and all local produce, small but very good menu, they have specials on every night, which is very good, as if you are staying for a week, you can have different meals every evening.
During our three-day Christmas package stay at the Quay Hotel, we dined mostly at the restaurant. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day evening, there was a large buffet offering a variety of hot and cold options that guests could help themselves to as much as they desired. The food was well-presented, freshly made, and delicious. For breakfast, guests could choose from a continental selection and toast, while hot food and drinks were ordered with the waiting staff. The freshly cooked breakfast was much better than a buffet-style meal. For Christmas Day lunch, we pre-ordered our main course and were greeted with a glass of champagne. The head chef even prepared alternative starters for some members of our party. The main courses of turkey and fillet of beef were well-presented, and though there was a lack of roast potatoes initially, more were brought to us. The portion sizes were generous, and the selection of desserts that followed was also delicious. We finished with coffee and mince pies in the lounge bar. The Boxing Day meal also impressed, with well-presented and tasty dishes that reflected the amount we had already eaten. The waiting staff were attentive and accommodating throughout our stay, despite sacrificing their own Christmas with their families to care for the guests. The food quality was exactly what you would expect from a four-star hotel, making it a great choice for a special occasion in the area.
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food we were served for dinner. Again our tour bus group was given a set menu with a few choices for each course. We loved the Pea Soup, the salmon entrée was a bit better than the chicken, but the Sticky Pudding and Ice Cream were truly excellent.
Turned up at 7.15pm on a Wednesday evening looking forward to a drink and some dinner outside on the deck. The food looks very good. At 7.45 we were still waiting for someone to bother to ask us if we'd like a drink or offer us a menu. Despite numerous staff walking past they don't appear to think serving paying customers is what they're employed to do. It wasn't particular busy. An experience of utterly hopeless service the location is super but someone needs to get a grip of the staff as it looks as if nobody is running the show. Left at 7.55, having not been served. Avoid poorly managed staff with no one displaying any interest in service deserves to be called out.
