Note that despite signs to the contrary they were not checking covid passports of anyone...although that rule is coming to the end in a couple of days anyhow. We love Pho and have eaten at maybe 8 different places in the past. What makes the difference is the quantity, variety and quality of flavors. For a large bowl of Pho there was one relatively small sprig of basal, maybe 4 good size leaves and 5 very small leaves. Often we have gotten a large handful of herbs...not so here. so Pho was pretty bland. Bean sprouts were also very minimal. Llime....a very small corner of a lime. So soup was of average quality but the added flavor options were sorely lacking. Also had shrimp spring rolls...another favorite. Sliced in half shrimp, lettuce and noodles...no mint or other herbs...the blandest rolls I have ever had and I almost always order this as an appetizer. Last item, things were not very hot, not even the tea...first tiny cup was okay, the next was cold, the Pho was warm but not hot so by the time you got through half of it, it was room temperature.
First time in an Asian restaurant in which cold tea was served. I was asked if I was okay with that and said sure. It was nevertheless a new experience for me. Clean. Not very well-lit at night. Lighting was flat and somewhat dim. It felt like a eat and dash joint. Great for lunch but guests want to sit a little longer for dinner. Better lighting design would make this place much more welcoming. The food itself was fine. The shrimps used in the rolls need to be prepared/cleaned better.
We ordered a Large pho (noodle) but the portion was like Medium and priced like Large compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. The good part was their beef was of good quality but the soup was below average with MSG, not really put in enough time and energy to broth a good one from enough ingredients. The soup is very important to a bowl of pho and it was quite disappointing! We also ordered chicken and pork on rice. It tasted good but the price was a bit on the high side. The service was average too...
I eat hetr on a regular basis and have never left unhappy. Portion sizes and prices are amazing. The pho soup id the best that Ive ever had and always tastes the same. The staff owners are very friendly. Highly recommend this place!
This is a convenient place for Pho/rolls, just off highway 400 and 16th (first driveway East of the overpass). There 's usually free parking between Boston Pizza and Montana 's, but leaving the lot via Sweet River can be mayhem. My Vietnamese friend, with whom we have visited Pho Mi 99 over years, says the food has gone downhill a bit; but, I 'd say it 's pretty reliable and good for the price. On weekends, sometimes there 's a 5-10 minute wait for a table, and the constant turnover means ingredients keep fresh. I would recommend the Pho, and Vietnamese coffee to finish a meal. Avoid the heaviest hour(s) for dinner time.
