I love Chinese cuisine both American and traditional styles. After I tried countless restaurants, I'm happy to say that's my favorite. Shanghai Tokyo (ST) is located on the highway 1 near the University of Maryland, College Park. There are also other restaurants, a hiking trail and a metro station nearby. Via the road on the same side of the highway is a convenient payment for Parklot it is quite cheap compared to other parking spaces in the DC Metro area. ST is not huge and offers a naturally illuminated, relaxed ambience. Staff are very friendly and have offered some tasteful recommendations. I often go with friends so we can eat family style and I can taste as many dishes as possible. Last time we had the Ma Po Tofu, beef with pepper, beef Chow Mein, Chicken Mei Fun and Four Season Green Beans. Everyone was excellent. The tofu was cooked as in Sichuan well and slightly spicy. The green beans had a mixture of spices, umami, salt and pepper to give a balanced profile. Both pasta dishes had delicate meat and noodles NOT to saucy. Finally, beef with long peppers was spicy but well seasoned. In addition to Chinese food, the restaurant also offers Thai and Japanese cuisine. I used to have their curries and sushis and they were great too. Overall, this place has some of the best Asian food I've ever had. I can't recommend ST enough.
