Took my husband there for his birthday lunch never again overpriced food rubbish service beer that was flat or was undrinkable due to the sediment Would never go there again
Excellent. We booked two days in advance, pre-ordered oysters and crab, and then added to the order on arrival. The food was delicious, the service friendly and efficient, and there was a pleasing, quirky ambience to the place. Don’t expect frills or luxury surroundings… but that’s not why you’d go. Oh, and try a glass of the local white wine… a real discovery!
We stumbled across this little shack/restaurant on a walk along the coast road at West Mersea. Big surprise it’s an amazing spot for fine fresh fish. All a bit unusual, lots of tables were empty but pre booked. Fortunately the waitress found us a table. (I’d book if you’re going! We ordered a smoked fish platter each with a side of fried potatoes. Other diners were bringing their own wine out of cool boxes and bread out of bags! All very unusual. If only we’d known. Our fish platters were amazing fresh and delicious, great with crispy fried baby new potatoes. All in all a very good experience.
Never in my 50 years have I experienced staff as rude as the waitress who was working on the 15th of October. My partner and I walked into a place that had three tables being used. Have you made a booking? Was the opening line by Mersea 's finest waitress, not a hello or any greeting at all. We answered no. Well I can 't take any walks in 's again this place had only three of its 10 tables being used. So we asked could get some seafood to takeaway. I am not able to do that right now to which I replied you won 't serve me a punet of cockles? , we don 't have any replied the woman in what was now the constant rude tone. There are some there I replied, the woman leaned over pick the cockles up and put them on the counter. I took my card out to pay the £8.50 for the large punet of cockles and yes you have guessed it. Oh I can 't do card payments right now nothing other than that. Honestly the rudest most arrogant service sector person I have ever met. For everyone 's reference there is a place called Dukes seafood 2 mins walk away, there staff were wonderful and engaging, they take cards and their large cockle punet the exact same one is £1.50 cheaper.
