On Friday, January 12, 2024, I visited this charming, unspoiled old fisherman's pub located on the quay side of the River Colne in Wivenhoe. The pub had four well-maintained hand-pumped ales, with two available at each bar. The staff was lovely and friendly, and there were welcoming locals. The pub had a cozy and inviting atmosphere.
This charming village pub and eatery has a great local atmosphere and friendly staff. Unfortunately, I was unable to try the food as the kitchen was closed at 3:00 on a Saturday afternoon due to staff shortages. However, it is a fantastic spot for enjoying a couple of pints and is also very dog friendly.
Experience at Black Bouy has really upset me and a small group of friends. We were refused service/food in a really blunt way, while the table beside us got to order. They said “no food left” but how did they know how much food the table beside us were ordering. It’s a shame but we think racism/homophobia is the real reason
Had roast beef sunday lunch. The beef was very chewy could not eat half of it, came as one thick slice, roast potatoes not nice at all, not crispy. The veg was fine, but its veg. Had to ask for Horseradish ect. Young person behind bar was very confused when i tried to order two flat white coffees? didnt know what they were. When we got the bill asked the young girl to split it by two and she could not work out so we just rounded it up. Poor experience.
