Mel’s Downtown Creamery - Colchester

This place is very convenient for the center of Colchester. The ice cream is fantastic, but the portions could be improved; for example, the medium-sized cup is barely filled. Additionally, the portion sizes seem to vary depending on who is serving. Overall, I can say the ice cream tastes great!

This ice cream gave me stomach poisoning. Don’t get the cake batter, doesn’t even taste like a cake batter flavor. My toilet got the worst part of it.

The owner is not concerned about customers. I bit down on a large piece of plastic in my ice cream and could have broken a tooth or choked. I went back to the shop and gave them the piece of plastic and the employee said the owner would call. Never did. Called the shop and was told they would tell the owner again and I would get a call. Never did. Went back and was told again and the employee actually messaged her while I was standing there yet the owner never contacted me. We used to be regular customers but will never go back since the owner doesn’t care about the quality of the product or safety if their customers. I would not recommend this place. If I had received a courtesy call, I would have continued to buy my ice cream there.

I’m giving this place two stars because the milkshake was good. However, I don’t understand how they can advertise a small milkshake for $5.95 but then charge an additional $1.90 for the flavor. Our total for two small peanut butter shakes came to just under $15.00, which I think is quite pricey. Ultimately, that seems a bit expensive to me.

The ice selection was beautiful, and the staff was very friendly. We tried the flight, and it was a great experience!
