Contribuiți la feedbackThe beef offal noodles I had recently eaten were a disappointment compared to the ones I had a few months ago. The taste was not as fresh and some parts were lacking the distinctive flavor of beef offal.
Disclaimer: This review is written by a resident of the Yuen Long area. De Kee is located near the entrance of Tai Kiu Market, coexisting with Yuen Long for many years. The wide entrance without glass doors is accompanied by a noodle bar where you can watch the chefs slice beef brisket and beef offal. The glass is relatively clean, and behind the noodle bar is a small bar serving drinks and snacks. On the right-hand side, there are seven rows of booths that have been welcoming customers for ten years, with a few large tables surrounded by seating. The place is spacious, and I think it can accommodate forty to fifty people without any problems. The menu at De Kee offers a variety of dishes compared to other noodle shops, including Dongjiang chicken. However, on this day, I had the beef offal noodles with shredded fish skin. The presentation of the beef offal noodles is not particularly appealing, but De Kee is generous with the ingredients, including burdock, tripe, intestines, lung, and beef spleen. Some shops only offer a lot of tripe with one or two other ingredients, but De Kee's beef spleen is my favorite because it is tender and chewy, without any unpleasant smell. The tripe and intestines are also fresh and clean in texture. The soup base has a hint of Sichuan peppercorn and star anise flavor, not too overwhelming, and probably without MSG. The noodles are chewy and there is nothing to nitpick about. Halfway through the bowl of noodles, I realized the fish skin had not been served yet; it turns out they fry it separately and then add it on top to maintain its crispiness. It adds a pleasant surprise and even when eating it dry without dipping it in the soup, it is still crunchy. Of course, it may be a bit oily. The coffee is nothing special. Despite not being a top-tier delicacy, De Kee must have put in a lot of effort over the years to survive as a noodle shop. They are located near the market and the cleanliness level inside is good. Moreover, you can hear customers chatting casually inside the shop.
