Visited Galileo on a recent visit to Clonmel. Reviews were interesting, mainly very good but reaction to bad one’s not great. We booked and very pleasantly surprised to find BYO. Brought a bottle and welcomed warmly. Good selection and both starters were excellent. Bruschetta with tomato and prawns with garlic. Large portions and prompt friendly service. We decided to share a pizza as they looked good (and large). While waiting for the pizza the manager told us there was a minimum spend of €25 each to avail of the BYO. In fairness this was on the back page of the menu after the desserts and I had seen it but not paying attention didn’t realise it was per person. If you have 2 starters and 2 mains you will reach €50 but as all portions are very generous we would not have finished them. A minor quibble but when we booked we were told about BTO and maybe should have been told about terms. More importantly this was handled very well by the manager and the pizza was super. Strongly recommend and will be back.
Absolutely love Galileo. My favourite place to eat in Clonmel...Was there last night the food was amazing...Hasan (the manager) and all of the staff are so nice, couldn't do enough for us ...I will be back very soon !
Wanted to love this place because it's such a gorgeous room, but from the moment I noticed all the chairs at our table were stained I should have known to lower my expectations. Really really over priced for what it is. The pasta was bland and didn't taste like it was freshly made. The chips tasted of other food which had been fired in the same oil and were over cooked as if they'd been reheated. The staff weren't friendly and didn't seem happy... It was the small things like the dirty plates weren't cleared away when our desserts were served. That nothing was anticipated like laying out the cutlery before our desserts arrived, asking us would we like tea and coffee which we would have and isn't that where restaurants make their money. That the person seating us didn't lift his head as we stood at this desk, even though he wasn't exactly run off his feet, there was one other couple eating when we arrived. He was unfriendly and unwelcoming. But I could have got over all that and the food would have been acceptable if the price hadn't been so very high for what it was, if you're going to charge such a high price then the standard of food and service needs to reflect that. I could have eaten in Chez Hans for a similar price to what I paid.
Had to wait 4 minutes to find someone to pay for my takeaway pizza. Superb spot for free delicious pizza
