Spoons Cafe - City of New York

I placed a phone order this morning, and unfortunately, the lady took my order incorrectly, insisting that I hadn’t mentioned a sandwich. After spending a frustrating 25 minutes on the phone, where the guy was trying to be helpful but barely let me speak unless I interrupted him, they finally charged me the difference for my order, which any store should do. It was surprising how hard it was for them to grasp that notion. To top it all off, when I specified that I wanted just a plain egg, I ended up with a sandwich loaded with lettuce, tomatoes, and more. This experience has definitely made me reconsider ordering from here again.

1. The personal pizza was cold and soggy, sliding to one side of the box. 2. The orange juice was hot. 3. The cheesecake looked like it had been squished or spilled in the container, and it was warm as well. While I didn’t expect extravagant packaging, the way the food arrived was simply unacceptable. I understand it was a hot day, but the restaurant was only 11 short blocks away! I told my kids that the meal was amazing to avoid upsetting them, but when they saw the pictures, they pointed out that I wasn’t being honest. They were right; I didn’t want to hurt their feelings. I emailed the restaurant, and someone named Pessy replied. I sent her pictures and briefly described the issues. She asked for my phone number, and I provided it. A few weeks passed with no response, so I sent a follow-up email, but still got no reply. As of today, nearly two months have gone by since I first reached out, and no one has bothered to contact me. I am extremely disappointed! I waited to post a review to give them a chance to rectify the situation, but as of now, there’s been absolutely nothing. I will definitely not recommend this place to anyone!

The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. The service was excellent; they provided everything you could hope for from a restaurant.

Great service, excellent menu, and the most incredible cheesecake (marble plain)! After having breakfast there, I can see why they have thrived for so many years, outlasting numerous other establishments on 13th Ave. Spoons is on its way to becoming an icon on the Avenue—here's to many more years of success!
