J.w. Trainors - City of Long Beach

I couldn't agree with Johanna more! Trainor's is a solid Long Beach bar with a great crowd and a laid back, but always positive vibe. No snooty bouncers, no decked out scantily clad girls, and for Long Beach's annual Irish Fest, no cover : We visited Long Beach in January 2013 It's sad to see Trainor's boarded up after Hurricane Sandy, but hopefully they've got something stirring and reopen soon!

5 stars. Thats right and i'm cheap with my 5 stars. I love this bar for so many reasons. Including (but not limited to... 1. the bouncers and bartenders are HILARIOUS and they love me. 2. they let me try and fit myself in a giant pot once, and encourage said behavior 3. there are windows i can yell out of at people passing by 4. there is always something funny happening 5. they have a dart board and a pool table, and even if people are playing you can still harass them 6. i have never, ever met anyone crabby at this bar 7. they are right across the street from my favorite bbq joint in the world, and they let me bring wings in i LOVE local bars with local people and cheap drinks. So if you're comin to my hood to get hussied up and play with out of towners or local cats that like to mess with the bennys heads dont come to trainors, go to minnesotas. If you wanna come to my hood and chill with the local people that are out to drink, hit my trainors up. the owner is a really effn nice. okay so during the winter, you MIGHT see someone drunk sleeping at the bar at 4 on a wednesday...but whateve, its winter. dont hate.

This is what I would call a dive bar. But I like dive bars, so there isn't any offense meant to be taken. Definitely a very laid back bar and filled with locals. I have a house within stumbling distance of this place and it is definitely less of a fist pumping kind of crowd that most of the places on Beech (I'm looking at you, Minnesota's). Everyone here is REALLY nice. It's actually kind of shocking how nice the bartenders are. There was some very important English soccer match playing at 10am on Monday that my boyfriend wanted to watch... and since we do not have any cable or even a TV for that matter in our house again, (yet) we decided to try Trainor's. We really didn't have any intention of drinking due to our weekend festivities (which about 45 mins later we gave in because my neighbor tricked us into getting drunk) but figured we would order a drink if we could find the game because we were taking up bar stools (mind you there were at least 10 old timers in here drinking some hard stuff). We asked the bartender if he could put the game on and he just gave us the remote to surf for the channel. We ended up not finding the channel (beIN Soccer) and thanked him for his courtesy. Nice guy.. I wish I got his name! Anyway, in general this bar is definitely more casual and doesn't try as hard as the rest of the majority of bars in Long Beach. Not much decor or ambiance; just your basic run of the mill bar.

Dive. No beer selection and place is always dead with no signs of life except on the tvs.

COME HERE FOR THE TACOS! At night, you can get 3 tacos for $6 and it's the best deal in Long Beach. Happy Burger took over the kitchen here this summer and not a lot of people know about it yet. Mark my words this place is going to be swarming with people once they realize how much better the tacos are than The Inn or Cabana. They grill parmesan cheese on the outside of the taco shell and the homemade hot sauce is so delicious!
