Contribuiți la feedbackWe lose our old-fashioned alcohols with an alarming rate, so it is great to visit a place like the walmer castle in notting hill, which feels like a real pub, but one with varied drinks and eat them. directly on the road from the portobello market, it has a new dining room mix Gastro-Pub classic with a selection of British and modern European small plates. there are always four seasonal ales available on the entrance next to on-tape beers from small local Cask brewers and craft mastersmen, as well as first class bottle beers from all over the world. but we drank a delicious lemony Saint-Marc chablis, which was a great game with our crispy squid and delicious uzy arancini small teller. Other starters include sloe gin smoked salmon with razed fennel, grilled British asparagus with lime and crispy British black combe ham and truffle oil and all of them sound good. for the net we have tasted a delicate spatchcocked gammon steak with culture potatoes in a delicious creamy chalk senf sauce. I went for a classic fish and chips attraktiw served on art newspaper. the teig was excellent and the chips crack. the tasty sides include trufflemac n cheeses and trendy sweet potato frries, but we did not go there! for dessert salted caramel-winnerols were as decadent as they sound and totally unmistakable, although I was tried by the blueberry and lemon ricotta cheesecake. whether they are a native or check out the antiques of the Portobello market, the Walmer Castle is a good option for lunch or dinner. service is friendly and efficient, the inner is warm and cozy moved by the occasional idiosyncratic antiques from the market, and eating is a cut above the average. the only problem is that it is not about the corner of me!
The walmer castle is the art pub where I could sit for hours, slowly jump on a drink and chat with a friend, unleashed. I could, and I did, I did.
No I am not talking about the one of henry viii. I'm talking about the gastropub in notting hill. as usual for the opposite the pub has a Thai restaurant and there is no exception with walmer castle, nicely laid back traditional pub style down, and above a Thai cuisine world
The walmer castle is the art pub where I could sit for hours, slowly slip on a drink and chat with a friend, unleashed. I could, and in that I did, I did. Even at the most busy nights, the nesting on one of his great sessels is protected in peace. ten colorful blackboards hanging on each wall, put the mood with light-hearing sweating over dug and snaps: the kind of sharpener I would expect from a friend if I went a little too wild after a pint too many. the atmosphere alone would be enough to keep me back; add that the walmer castle serves excellent food, and you will quickly understand why I like it. if they expect from the selection of British classics, they are for a surprise: the specificity of the walmer castle is Thai food, while standard pig tea banishes on the last half of the page in the menu. my visits are typically driven by a crazy request for pad thai or red curry: I can't help but wonder her perfect balance of aromen, and wish that the Thai dishes that I am blurry in home was half as good. from last week there is a new entry in my list of favorites: paenang curry, rather mild in seasoning, but pleasantly rich in sweet cocos milk and Thai basilikum. the cocose rice I ordered on the side was so sticky and sweet, it could have been a brilliant pudding; it took as little as half a bowl to fill me, but I couldn't get the fork down until the last chalk was gone. I visit the regular at midday when the ground floor bar is quiet enough to enjoy a cozy sit down menu, and finding a table is not a hard task; on the other side, the upper floor restaurant can be very busy in the evening. the two etagens could not be different: the look and the feeling of the pub is as classic as possible, while the dining room is a full on thai restaurant with its own life. everything floats back to the south-east asian: the furniture, the crooked and even the Asian waiters I have never seen to hang around. also so the environment is far away from formal, and attracts a varied clientele as they would expect to see on the plough side of notting hill; the friendly, inconspicuous service fits to special occasions, business dinners and relaxed daily meals alike. the prices fit to all bags, just like the atmosphere suits every taste. most cost less than £10, and price differences between the lunch and dinner menu are minimal, the main that curries do not come with free rice in the restaurant. Even if you are factored in an additional £3,20 for a bowl of rice, you can expect to spend less than £20 per head for a generous, fulfilling meal – and also to throw a drink. they are pressed hard to find a better bargain in the opposite: the walmer castle makes the best Thai food I had in notting hill, if not in all london. mark my words, because this is not the last time you will hear me say them.
I am only giving this a 3.5 because it is permanently busy, but the pub is a pleasure to drink in when you can find a space. It's one of those places which seems to always be full of attractive people and the Thai restaurant upstairs is a great surprise. I am a regular to the restaurant as the Thai food is great for the price. Especially the Pad Thai
