I had lunch at this restaurant a few weeks ago with family and friends. We were running late but had informed the staff in advance. The beer and wine were good, the service was attentive, and we enjoyed the food. I would highly recommend this restaurant for solo diners, couples, and groups. It is a peaceful oasis away from the busy streets of London. The decor and atmosphere are above average, making it a great meeting spot. The restaurant is hidden in a slightly unexpected alley, and despite walking along Strand and Embankment for years, I had never noticed it before.
Beautiful old pub. Unfortunately this was ruined by the miserable (bordering on hostile) bar-staff who have no business being anywhere behind a bar. Went in a 2pm on a Tuesday and was glowered at for daring to enter and order a pint. No 'can I help you? ', no 'thank you ', no 'goodbye ', just glares and silence. Will not return.
Found this pub when we were on the way to Buckingham Palace, but needed a rest and something to eat, so walked down a little side street and stumbled on the restaurant. Fun pub and really very good food and choice of drinks. Service was excellent and location not as busy as some places nearby, so we were able to enjoy our food in a less busy area, making the stop more restful overall, although the pub was busy and fun. Would highly recommend this restaurant for the food, atmosphere and drinks. We felt so lucky to have found this place. Made our day.
Such a lovely pub. We were visiting Benjamin Franklin’s house as part of the Open House Festival.we sat in the ‘snug’ and had delicious fish and chips.
