Went there for buffet lunch Sunday 27 August 2023. Cost £9.95 sterling plus a diet coke £2.00 sterling. Normally I go to Mr Wu in Shaftesbury Venue but being re-furbished under a new name/owner Young Chen. Small basic selection of the normal dishes, vegetable soup, chicken, beef pork, chips, potatoes, spring rolls, chop suey, vegetables. Also some vegetarian dishes. Few to mention, no desserts at all. OK for a quick simple part warm meal. Not much room downstairs, have to go up steep stairs to carry plates to the next floor above. Will not be going back. Went there at midday.
Poor service and selection of tasteless food. Visibly poor hygiene and no investment in seating areas. Felt uncomfortable eating here.
I think as other reviewers have stated you need to put everything into context including the price of this buffet. When we ate there it was after a theatre show and we just wanted something quick and easy. The buffet food when we were there was all fresh and they kept topping up the food. The meat dishes were all flavoursome, there was also steamed rice, fried rice and noodles, the noodles were really good. At the end of the buffet there were spring rolls and prawn crackers etc, there was a good choice and we went up twice and filled our plates. If we were back in the area we would come back. The staff were efficient and yes the place is nothing special but for the price you pay it's a good deal.
I can't help but chuckle at the negative reviews for this restaurant (Mr. Wu on Wardour Street). What do people expect for £10? A Michelin-star dining experience? There are buffets just down the street charging £15 plus a service charge for essentially the same dishes. I doubt you'll find a cheaper option in London. The food is decent. The beef in black bean sauce was delicious, as were the chicken wings and sweet and sour pork. The portions were generous and everything was served warm. The staff were friendly and efficient. Chinese service is typically straightforward, which some may mistake for rudeness. As for the cash upfront policy, who knows? Perhaps they've had issues in the past with customers not paying or using fraudulent cards. If you're looking for a filling and affordable Chinese takeaway option, this place is worth a visit.
