Leeds East Airport - Church Fenton

A dismal place unlike most GA airfields. Not even a cafe.

Visited Leeds East Airfield (EGCM) on 23/11/2016 (formally Church Fenton) in G-ROLY a C172 based at Netherthorpe. This was a last minute short flight with minimum planning required in winter weather. Netherthorpe was very boggy and hence no circuits allowed. PPR was arranged with minimum fuss over the phone and we were advised of free landings if we uplift 75 litres of AVGAS (for aircraft over 1000kg) otherwise it would have been £15. Under 1000kg it is 50litres uplift to secure free landing otherwise it will be £10. The runways are immaculate as to be expected and there are plans to have an RNAV approach created. The JETA1 fuel is self service 24hours according to the Pooleys guide which could be useful. Lighting is still installed at the airfield but the old ILS is no longer present. The large café was open serving very nice hot food and good prices even though this was mid week in November. Having obtained our PPLs at nearby Sherburn (EGCJ) it was a nice experience to land at the old Church Fenton having requested MATZ penetrations countless times years ago. Everyone was friendly at the airfield and we would definitely be back, a nice short local trip for the winter months to maintain currency.
