Contribuiți la feedbackAh, Papa John’s Pizza! Established in by John Schnatter, better known as “Papa John,” this pizza chain has gone on to win the hearts, minds and waistlines of many who enjoy “trash pizza.” If you’re not familiar with the term, it’s not overly derogatory...despite how it sounds. In the foodie literature, this term is generally used to describe quick, cheap pizza. Think Pizza Hut. Think Chuck-E Cheese. Think Domino’s. Now think Papa John’s. Once you’ve sampled their pies, you’ll quickly see how and why it is often labeled “trash pizza:” It’s quick, it’s cheap, it’s loaded with toppings and its greasy. What’s not to love? After all, cheap pizza is cheap pizza, right? Well, not really. Even when it comes to national and international pizza chains, quality still matters. How does Papa John’s compare to the rest? The Papa John’s in Chilliwack opened in and around to much fanfare. I remember my mom, in particular, singing their praises when I visited in late Fall of that year. “You want some pizza?” she asked. “I’ll get some from Papa John’s! They’re really good!” When she asked if I wanted pizza, Jim’s immediately came to mind, but I’d never tried Papa John’s at that point, and so said “sure,” I’d give them a shot. We did a pick-up order and brought our prized pie home: A “Works” pizza with spicy buffalo wings. I’ll admit, from a presentation perspective, the pizza looked good: The cheese and toppings were ample and evenly distributed throughout. As far as “trash pizza” goes, this one looked like it could be a winner. What about the buffalo wings? Well, they just looked like your average everyday chicken wings – they were very saucy and more sweet than spicy. In that regard, they reminded me a whole lot of Domino’s which, as I’ve written elsewhere, isn’t exactly my favourite. On the plus side, at least it was cheap – as that kind of pizza should be Fast-forward to the current day. I found myself in Chilliwack yet again, visiting the family. The subject of pizza came up. Since I was curious about Papa John’s following the scandal of July – whereby poor ol’ Papa John himself was booted as CEO and his “image” removed from all marketing materials – I suggested we order from there. My mom’s reaction was almost a complete from what it was years before. No longer was she saying it was “really good;” rather, the response was one of disgust: “Ew! They’re bum!” I don’t know why I found that so funny. Anyway, we ordered the exact same thing as before: Buffalo wings and the “Works.” Again, the wings looked and tasted like Domino’s. The pizza, on the other hand, looked nice, but fell flat on flavour in a big way. I mean, implicit in the premise of “the works” is the promise of several pizzas in one: You can nibble on the mound of toppings individually or you can take it all at once. It certainly sounds appealing but, taste-wise, I was left wanting a lot more. None of the toppings really had distinctive flavours – they all kind of melded together, which isn’t a good thing. It was bland and, to be blunt, boring. Maybe this pizza chain shouldn’t have booted John as CEO? Okay, now I’m just being cheeky. FOOD: SERVICE: VALUE: RECOMMENDATION: There are a lot of decent to excellent pizza places in Chilliwack. If you want your typical “trash pizza,” I’d recommend Pizza Hut or Panago. If you want something local and of far superior quality, go to Jim’s Pizzeria. There’s a reason they’ve been around for a few decades! As for Papa John’s, this is a recommendation to avoid. Crust was good , sauce bland , toppings average ... overall an average pizza at best ... stick with Jim's in Sardis
I will never go here again it was about a month ago I ordered pizza which came over hrs late and cold. After we were assured after waiting so long that it was made fresh by the delivery person. The manager tried to apologize...and wanted me to call him but I don't want their food ever again!
We LOVE Papa John's pizza but unfortunately we will NEVER use this one again. Placed our order on-line and when we got there over an hour later, they hadn't even looked at the order and started preparing it AFTER we got to the store! What...is the point of ordering ahead?
This restaurant has the best pizza in Chilliwack in my opinion. Prices are very good and delivery is super fast! My favorite is the BBQ chicken and bacon pizza and all pizzas come with a bell pepper in the box and a serving of garlic...butter so you can dip your crust. Yummy!!!
