Pick Me Up Cafe - Chicago

Update from Saturday, July 22nd: Joe really saved the day after my slow, hippy-chick waitress. I had to send my omelette back because it was overcooked, and just a heads up, their bagels tend to be tough. On Sunday, I didn't feel valued, so I left only a 10% tip. Today (Friday), the server was rude and short with us. Relax, lady! We drove quite a distance, excited for our first day in Chicago, only to find out they don't open until 9:00 a.m., and we had to pay for parking. I think we deserve a free cup of coffee if we return tomorrow, which might change this review! Update: Why so serious? I ordered the Clown Combo, and server #9 greeted us with a lukewarm welcome without even introducing herself! It’s our second day, and she seemed disinterested and unfriendly! On the plus side, they have a sugar shaker and fresh cream, which is better than those wasteful little packets. Free parking on Sunday is a bonus! The potatoes are delicious, and the water pitcher is great to have all day (see image). Tuesday Update: Many guests walking in were confused about the late opening at 10 a.m. but the coffee is worth the wait! My omelette was a bit misshapen but enough for two and very fresh. For Father's Day, it was really busy, and since there was no food runner, my meal arrived lukewarm. However, it was nice to have a secret admirer! By the way, the French toast is big enough for three people! Lastly, a note on accessibility: there is no designated parking for disabled individuals.

I visited this restaurant for the first time with my friend, who is gluten-free, and she was thrilled to see that they have a gluten-free menu. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of options available. They also offer vegan and vegetarian dishes. The service was excellent; the staff member who took our order was very kind and consistently checked in on us. I will definitely return for brunch! I ordered a vegan benedict with tofu and veggies, and it was absolutely delicious—truly satisfying! I also really appreciate the lovely atmosphere of the place.

I stopped by for takeout and ordered the veggie chili with bread and butter, along with a chocolate brownie. The service was polite, the waiting area was cozy, and the food was fantastic. I will definitely be returning.

Been to this Pick Me Up a number of times.. food is always delicious..waiter/waitress service is always friendly and quick! The reason for the 2 stars? The host/ manager/owner is so rude. Bad impression on the wait to be seated. He actually sat three tables of 2 or more before seating me.. first come first served.? Note that this has happened to me before at Pick Me Up..no more! Moving on to another place. Too bad!

Pick me up Cafe is a really cute cafe with funky colors and an old school diner feel. They had a separate gluten free menu and the server was knowledgeable about their Gfree options.
