Lotus Cafe Banh Mi Sandwiches - Chicago

I used to love this restaurant during my college years for its authentic Vietnamese cuisine. However, I believe it is no longer operated by Vietnamese people, and the food has become more like fast, inauthentic Vietnamese fare. The spring rolls are pre-made and seem to have been in the fridge for a while, as the rice wrappers are dry and stiff. The pho is made with MSG broth, and the meat is overcooked. The honey-grilled pork banh mi no longer uses pork belly and doesn't include tofu anymore. It was such a disappointment to return to this place after six years. My fond memories of dining here during my time at UIC have been tarnished. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food, I recommend staying away from this restaurant.

We ordered some Pho soup, and it was delicious! I highly recommend it, and the portion size is just right. The service was quick and attentive. However, the restrooms could use some improvement; the men's sink needs a plumber since it doesn't drain properly.

I had the pork belly classic. Omg super fresh and delicious. The crisp fresh beef on the bun paired with the sweet pork belly. Don't forget the specialty coffee.

We ordered 300 sandwiches (4 flavors) and 200 spring rolls for our community, and it was AMAZING! Not only was the food delicious, they had single wrapped each sandwich and put it in labeled boxes, gave us extra sauces, and helped us set up theevent! It was very clear that they had thought through the process, and I really value that! I highly recommend ordering largecatering orders? very impressed with their service and presentation. The food was gone in no time and ppl kept coming back formore?so good! Will be ordering with them again!

This restaurant is fantastic! It's budget-friendly, delicious, and has a great local vibe. The wings were absolutely the best!
