The hot pot here is really goooood! The normal dishes are really good too. If you like spice, it's a perfect place. It usually is really crowded, but they will somehow find you a seat. Not too expensive either!
All of Tony Gourmet's restaurants are the bomb, but this one is my new favorite. After Lao Sze Chuan messed up my meal one too many times when it was busy, I decided I'd take a year off from L S C and start trying the other restaurants in Chinatown Square. Imagine my surprise at the service and quality of Lao Shanghai, plus I noticed many of the same staff working there. So far they've been awesome, much more low key than L S C.
Good luck was upon us the other day when a table for seven was immediately available upon our arrival! The food was good and served with a smile ..... although the service could have been a bit more attentive as our server disappeared on us with little or no follow up to our order. We ended up canceling one forgotten dish. High marks for ambiance, quality of the food and prompt seating on this visit!
My favorite of Tony Hu's restaurants other than the original Lao Sze Chuan. Great vegetable dishes, the chef's specials are all wonderful. Don't forget scallion pancake either.
