Gyu-kaku Japanese Bbq - Chicago

For the meats, I chose two different steaks and some pork, all of which I cooked and enjoyed right at the table. They were all so tasty, even without the various sauces available for dipping—sweet soy, ponzu, and spicy. Personally, I loved the first two sauces but avoided the spicy one since that’s not my preference. I really wish I lived in Chicago so I could visit this restaurant more often! I was in town to catch the amazing band The Warning at the Bottom Lounge, just around the corner. If I find myself back in Chicago, I will definitely return to this spot! Be sure to ask for Barbara—she provided excellent service throughout my visit.

I went to this restaurant for a friend's birthday lunch, and everything was great. We even took advantage of the happy hour special. There were four of us, and the total bill came to under $200, including tips. This place remains one of the best Japanese BBQ spots I've been to. The only downside is that parking can be a bit tricky at times.

I visited for lunch because their lunch menu is quite affordable at $13.99, and it includes two meat options, miso soup, salad, and a generous serving of rice. I was pleased with the portion size. The quality of the meat was good. As a Korean, I compared my experience at Gyu-Kaku to traditional Korean BBQ, and while they are quite similar, I felt that the meats lacked a distinctive or special quality. Korean BBQ is often marinated in a sweet sauce, giving it a unique flavor, whereas the Japanese BBQ felt more straightforward. However, they do provide three dipping sauces for the meat, which enhances the meal. Overall, I enjoyed my experience, and I think it's definitely worth trying, especially for their lunch menu!

New favorite restaurant!! The service was great, our server was so kind and polite. (He even gave me a free dessert because it was my birthday! I got green tea icecream soooo tasty) The entire lunch was delicious and the timing in which everything wasbrought out was perfect. So many meats to choose from and every one I tried was mouth watering and made you want more and more.No disappointment at all, definitely reccomend and definitely will be coming back.

I absolutely adore Gyu Kaku! The cocktails are fantastic, and my top picks are the beef bibimbap and gyu sushi!
