Ellie's Cafe - Chicago

My first impression was not great. I didn?t experience that warm friendly staff that everyone is raving about. I decided to visited Ellie?s cafe after several of my co-workers/ neighbor mentioned the breakfast was very delicious. Upon entering thecafe mind you for the first time, I didn?t know it was a seat yourself. So my kids and I are kind of standing there while thetwo young man at the counter just stared at us. They never greeted us or said sit whatever you like. Although this gave me abad vibe I decided to just find a spot. As I attempted to get a high chair for my daughter I assumed one of the gentleman wouldoffer help but, they didn?t. As we wait and wait for our server to bring us water and menus. Finally the gentleman who appearedto be the cook walked passed and spoke. When he walked back pass he tried to make small talk with my daughter. Still no water nomenus. So I asked are we suppose to go up to the register to order???? He responded by say ?oh no that?s my fault I forgot totell her you were waiting ? I totally don?t believe that to be true. I think he was just taking one for the team). Finally ayoung lady came with water etc and she was pleasant. The food was great. As I paid our bill there was conversation amongst twoemployees about the music. The young felt it was to loud and when the young man asked if he should turn it down she stated no, Iasked the customers and they said it was ok. I was standing there wondering well which customers were asked because no one askedus. So although the food was excellent I hope excellent customer that some reviews mentioned are shared with ALL customers andnot just selected ones.

Good omelettes. Nice casual breakfast place. Friendly service.

I enjoyed that it was a small neighborhood cafe with exceptional coffee. They also provide vegan bacon, and gluten free options. It's nice for me to have this 10 minutes from home.

Fabulous Gourmet eats! This is a buried treasure for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with BYOB meals. Cozy little place with extremely friendly staff.

Great Cafe serving breakfast and lunch. The staff was super friendly and the food delicious. I had an omelet and my friend the burger and we were fully satisfied.
