A friend recommends a special lunch in el campanario. Beautiful local cuisine, “la sopa de Chipilin” must be tasted slowly to enjoy the different ingredients mix. Las “enmoladas enchiladas de mol” is a must and finally we try the Cochito and “el pollo chiapaneco ”, very well prepared. beautiful food in an old and typical restaurant in the city.
Very nice location. The Marimba players liked it. The fondita with chorizo was good. The regional courts were really bland. Maybe they are. Had the fried pig in red sauce and the “iron ball” soup. Nothing special. Good service.
Although recommended by locals, I did not like the food in this restaurant near the main square. It is big and was full of loud Mexican families. I love the Marimba players. But I would suggest trying some of the restaurants overlooking the river, which looked so much more interesting.
A well-decorated restaurant in the center of town, el Campanario offers typical fare for Chiapa de Corzo and Chiapas. Most of the restaurants offer the same, but over the years I keep coming back to this one because I've enjoyed myself here. Even though I was alone this trip and arrived before the usual dinner hour (2:00) when there were no other guests, a marimba group was playing. The bubbling fountain provided more music. Try the pepita con tasajo (beef jerky with squah seeds) or cochito, a stew of shredded pork adorned with lettuce and radishes. There is complete bar service.
