I have been here many times over the last 10 years and have had nothing but praise for the Fox and Hounds. It has always been known for great food and service. Unfortunately this must be a thing of the past. We arrived 15 minutes before our booking time shown to our table. We placed our order and 50 minutes later nothing… We saw people arrive afterwards and were promptly served. I asked the lady who checked is in she said the starters didn’t go through to the kitchen. Even if this was the case then a Sunday Lunch within a hour is not unreasonable. We then heard the people on the next table complaining that there food was cold. We then left. There are many other places for a good Sunday Roast unfortunately this wasn’t one.
Our experience for my son's 21st birthday meal was very disappointing. The food was of very poor quality, arrived cold and extremely salty with watery gravy. The meat was full of fat. The glasses were smeared with lipstick, indicating they were not properly cleaned between customers. Despite booking for the restaurant, we were placed in a makeshift cold marquee. Overall, it was a vile experience.
While traveling to Cumbria, we decided to stop at the Fox and Hounds instead of a service station and we were glad we did. The restaurant was busy for good reason. We had a comfortable table surrounded by foxes and hounds, with the theme being taken seriously yet tastefully. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. My club sandwich with crispy bacon was perfect, a first for me to have it made crispy on request. My partner enjoyed the super salad and fishcakes. My coffee came with a small brownie, the best I've ever tasted. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely stop here again on our travels to or from Cumbria.
Had a wonderful evening at The Fox Hounds on a Saturday evening. Food was delicious, staff were friendly and attentive, and music provided by Keith Southern was an added bonus. Highly recommend.
