Falcon Lake Bakery Bistro

Last morning of our camping vacation and decided to have breakfast out. First of all - I've purchased bread, cinnamon buns and coffee previously and it is all very good. That is why I gave it 2 stars. However breakfast this morning was not good at all, and we are people that rarely complain. We all ordered a breakfast skillet. There were very few people in the restaurant, however it took a 1/2 hour for us to receive our order. In the meantime, we were told that it would take extra time to make the hash browns and would fries be ok? What? 2 of us said fine, and I don't like fries so decided to just have toast. When it finally arrived, just looking at it was so disappointing. More than 1/2 the plate was fries or toast with orange slices. A couples scrambled eggs with veges with a slice of cheese melted on top - and it was cold. All of this for $10 to $12 a person...we were 3. When asked by the waitress how everything was, I did tell her it was very disappointing. She apologized, and was very nice about it, indicating it was a newer cook. However, we ended up paying full price even though we all left 1/2 a plate of food behind. You really need a properly trained cook if you are going to attract people in for breakfast. I rarely do this, but we left with a $60 bill (which included 2 loafs of bread from the bakery) however no tip.

We like going to this little bistro. The beverages and food is very good. Especially the cinnamon buns! Yum!The only thing that could be better is a more friendly staff at the gelato counter. I just feel like a number when I interact with them. I feel as though they are so used to the city that they have a difficult time to be more personal and cheerful. However if I try hard to chat them up they do eventually loosen up a bit. Not that they are not nice kids but they just could use some polishing to make customers feel welcomed and that they are keen to do business. I'm sure they can improve in this department. I understand when you deal with people every day it sometimes becomes hard to continue with the smiles all day long. But in the end it is worthwhile both for them and for the customer. A good business is only as good as its workers. Some are better than others but they are probably the ones suited for service oriented work. I will keep going back however and continue to be a cheerful customer.

The store hours are posted, and they say they are open for breakfast, but restaurant service doesn't start for an hour after the bakery opens. Wouldn't it be nice if they posted that? It should have been a sign to go down the road, but we came back once they were officially open. Service was indifferent, coffee was ordinary, food was ordinary, and when we asked about the maple syrup that didn't taste like maple, the server had to go in the back to ask, whereupon we found out that they were substituting whatever they could get from the grocery store next door. I guess at least they were honest about that part of it. Prices were high given the quality of food and service.

We figured a bakery/bistro would be a better option than the restaurant, so we stopped in for lunch.Checked out the bakery and at 13:00 the shelves were almost empty. A few loaves of bread and left-overs from the previous day. Headed down to the Bistro and was brought menu by an extremely pleasant young lady.The menu is rather limited. I had a bacon burger and chips, while my wife had wings and chips. Best part of the lunch was the wings, which were a huge portion and served piping hot. Although like everything else they were heavily salted.Both servings of chips, while hot were served soggy and greasy, so I suspect the oil is not hot enough. The bacon was undercooked and the burger looked like a typical fast food frozen puck. The onion rings were also very greasy.Price for burger, wings, chips and 1 coke - $45.

Enjoyed a quick stop in the bakery for a pastry and morning coffee. Everything is fresh and so tasty, and the smell was enough to create an appetite for anyone. Staff was extremely friendly and helped with some directions when needed.
