Japan Inn - Cheltenham

We came for a family Birthday and decided on the Banquet for $39 per head and were not dissapointed. The first course of Miso soup comes pretty quickly followed by the Goyza then the Sushi and Sushami. By the time we got to dessert we were all stuffed full with excellent food! Service was very friendly and very fast! Bright clean and this place is always busy! Its been an institution in the area for nearly 20 years and now I know why. Would recommend tgis to anyone who loves Japanese cuisine

I have been going to the Japan Inn for at least 5 years now, on and off. It is one of the dining options we have in the area. I took my wife there last night and couldn't believe how awful the entire experience was. We booked early and the moment we sat down we were being asked if we were ready to order. I think we would have had the menu for approximately 2 minutes at the most. Literally, 3 waitresses hovering around our tiny table to get the order in. Clearly, they were expecting a busy night or had been instructed to get the orders through.The entree arrived and we had no sooner started eating (been there approx 10 minutes at this point) then the first of the mains was on the table which had no space available. This main was for me as my wife and I had chosen different meals. I sent it back as we hadn't eaten half of our entree and there was literally no room for the main plate. The waitress removes the plate back to the kitchenApproximately 5 minutes later the plate is back and the entree plate is removed. So, we now have my main meal (keeping up with the timing here) 15 minutes after arriving; I ask for my wife's meal and we are told it is coming. We wait 10 minutes for my wife's meal (25 minutes in) and eat our mains. 15 minutes later we are at the front counter paying. 40 minutes for what was to be a relaxing Japanese dinner. Instead, we got a Maccas approach to dining and out the door. I tried to complain (which is unlike me read my other posts) and the woman who appeared to be in charge didn't even look at me as she spouted some lame excuse about the "season" or other as she was processing my account. WORST experience in a restaurant that comes to mind. They had clearly overbooked the restaurant and couldn't keep up with the crowds of people attending. Will never return as long as that management is there. Hope this helps in making a decision.

This restaurant had very nice, authentic Japanese food, the only thing is that they should have a bit more quantity in their bento boxes.

First visit and impressed with standard of food. Service excellent and surroundings pleasant. Probably not the most traditional Japanese, depends on choice. Would return for a follow up visit. Great value.
