So, we ended up sitting at two separate tables and ordering individually, only to move back together afterwards. This was quite frustrating! I wouldn't consider this to be good service at all. Is this what they call hospitality? The manager should consider taking another course on hospitality.
My wife and I had been exploring the Royal Botanic Gardens for a few hours and were ready for lunch. We tried to find a table at the busy restaurant in the gardens, but decided to venture outside to see what else we could find. We were pleasantly surprised to discover a small kiosk-style café in front of the palace gate on Macquarie Street. All seating was outdoors with only a few tables available. We enjoyed the peaceful park setting as we watched the impressive buildings across the street from the gardens. My wife ordered the quiche of the day and I had the ham and avocado sandwich on rye, both served with a fresh green salad. A cold beer topped off our light lunch. We were thrilled to have found this hidden gem!

My wife and I had just finished walking about the Royal Botanic Gardens for a couple hours and were ready for lunch. We stopped at the nice restaurant inside the gardens but it was very busy and no decent table was available, so we decided to just walk out of the gardens and see what we could find elsewhere. What a pleasant surprise to find this little kiosk-style cafe just outside the the Palace Gate off Macquarie Street. All seating is outside and there are just a few tables. We thoroughly enjoyed the still park-like setting while looking across the street to the imposing buildings that face the gardens. My wife had the quiche of the day and I had the chicken and avocado sandwich on rye -- both served with a fresh green salad. Cold beers completed this light lunch. We were very happy we stumbled on this place!
Nice little outdoor, park side cafe that serves "real food" and does made to order sandwiches, pasta, salads, and quiches.
