Looking for an altitude restaurant in winter for a regional lunch in a warm and almost traditional atmosphere? It is “A Babeth” that you must enter. You are more than 1640m above sea level with a view of the snow-covered slopes, and you can come by chairlift in pedestrian mode or stop with your skis between two tracks. Forget customer comments that have been a little too sensitive to Babeth's way of being: yes it is easy to ronch, but also with 30 years experience in this altitude chalet if it recommends you to install inside because the sun will have disappeared from its terrace in 20 minutes ... it is necessarily right! She has already seen too many customers so insist with their plate in hand to be placed inside when she has no seats to offer you. On the other hand, if you climb so far, you necessarily want to be satisfied, you can avoid fresh salmon or the supreme poultry to focus on regional dishes and therefore the specialties of the house. We opted for "La croûte du Berger" (pain, ham blanc au torchon, mushrooms forêt et oeuf, all presented in cassolette under a melted cheese and accompanied by a green salad), and for an exclusive of the house: "La Chaude melt des Alpages". The Hot Box is a local cheese, placed in the oven to melt it in its box, decorated with pork meat, served with cranberry potatoes and a smoked homemade dish. Of course, you'll have to wait a bit while this cheese goes to the oven. A Christmas beer will be around, and nothing prevents you from ordering an entrance! Instead, we opted for a share of merdic lemon pie for dessert, generous enough to be shared two after the calories englouties during the main dish. Babeth ensures that you spend a good time, she insists on "homemade", tells one or two anecdotes, and brings to the end of the meal a small glass of genepi, local liqueur, to slip everything in the good mood. The decor? Yeah, he looks loaded. The exterior is welcoming, warm. Then you deliberately enter this traditional chalet with thick stone walls, a chalet that has a hesitant atmosphere between Father Christmas’s antra and Hansel Gretel’s. There are many porcelain objects in the region, skins on the seats for comfort, and everything is pleasant if you agree to be transported elsewhere, in a universe that will attract the little ones and the great ones. You are not here in another restaurant for tourists where you can enjoy a hamburger with a steak of a small centimetre thick but in a woman of experience, dynamic and friendly if you agree to play the game. You're on vacation, enjoy it! I received 5* for generous portions and excellent local products, for the care of the decor that makes the place super hot, and for the personality of Babeth who is part of the experience.
What do you mean? A warm welcome and a delicious meal. This woman has a sense of business, she is in small care with her clients. And the chef prepares delicious and generous dishes. You can go with your eyes closed
I recommend to all this establishment which is simply extraordinary, the place is magical at more than 1650m altitude and the welcome of Babeth and her husband is without any other... a place where one would like to stay there forever.
