The Dunavant - Charlotte

This is a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal and catch up with friends. Unfortunately, today, September 2, 2023, is their last day of operation. Kudos to this establishment!

Fifteen minutes later, a young woman who claimed to be the store manager approached us—without any apology for the inconvenience or poor service—to inform us that we couldn’t sit together and would have to be spread out around the restaurant as tables became available. When I asked about this, she told me that DUNAVANT doesn’t really honor reservations; they’re just a guideline and we would be seated only if space allowed. Eventually, we were placed in groups of six at opposite ends of the restaurant. It took an hour for our food to arrive, and throughout the wait, we felt almost as if they wanted us to leave. The food itself was mediocre—nothing remarkable at all. Our waiter did an okay job, but my family at the other table was let down by their waitress. To make matters worse, it was my 45th birthday, and my family and friends came to celebrate with me, yet we didn’t get to enjoy the occasion together. The customer service was horrendous—no empathy, no apology, and a complete lack of tact, making us feel like we were the inconvenience. This was utterly unacceptable. As for parking, make sure to arrive early and be ready to walk since there’s very limited street parking available in front of the restaurant and in the nearby lot.

Overall, the restaurant experience was fantastic, but they really need to improve the demeanor of their hostesses. They are the first point of contact when you arrive, and being greeted by unfriendly and annoyed faces almost made us reconsider our visit. I understand that they might be overwhelmed, but a hostess should embody a more welcoming attitude.

I wanted to love this place but unfortunately it's only saving grace was our waitress Brittany- she was great...but the food and the rest of the staff left alot to be desired. The shrimp and grits were tasteless, the deviled eggs had no seasoning, the lobster mac n cheese was just ok. We did actually enjoy the chicken and funnel cake though. Long and short- you are rolling the dice with the menu items and the atmosphere is sub-par...so are the staff in terms of their attitudes. There are plenty of other places in Charlotte that have better food and better atmosphere. Don't waste your money or time here.

Arrived at the restaurant and went to check in. Had to wait a few minutes because the hostess was having some issues with the party in front of us and getting them seated. When it was our turn, we were sat promptly (had a reservation). Water was immediately brought to the table which was nice. Waitress took a little bit to get to our table but the place was pretty busy. We got the mimosa flight, chicken and funnel cake waffle and steak and eggs. Waitress came back about 10 mins after taking our order and said the computer systems were acting up and she retook our food order. Due to the issue, she did give us 2 additional flavors for mimosas for free which was nice. When the food came, mine was correct but she tried giving my wife the shrimp and grits. Once she realized it was wrong, my wife's correct order was brought immediately. Probably just grabbed the wrong entree. The food tasted great. Steak was cooked right and seasoned perfectly. Even tried some of my wife's food and it was amazing. All in all, I'd say 4 out of 5. Stinks that the place is closing at the end of August cause we'd really like to try it for dinner.
