Mama Gee's - Charlotte

This is the best Jollof I've had in Charlotte—I'm serious! I've tried Jollof from various places, from New York City to the DMV, and this one stands out with its smoky flavor, perfect rice texture, and just the right level of spices. I even devoured the fried plantains in the car because they were so delicious; they didn't make it home with me! This is a vegan option, so you can order Jollof rice and fried plantains. Make sure to pay them a visit and support local businesses. I definitely plan to come back for more. The service was professional, the carry-out space was spotless, and the payment process was super easy.

If a Haitian enjoys food from another nation, it means it really tastes great. This was my first time trying West African cuisine, and I found the jollof rice to be delicious. The mild sauce complements it perfectly. The prices are reasonable for what you receive. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to explore more dishes!

I recently had my first experience at Mama Gees, and it was fantastic. The young man at the counter was extremely friendly and helpful in choosing my meal. I decided on the Jollof Rice with Chicken, which came with plantains and a side of sauce for the rice. Oh my goodness, it was incredible! The chicken was packed with flavor, and the rice had just the right amount of spice—definitely noticeable but not overwhelming. The plantains were also delicious, and I absolutely loved the Ginger Beer; it had a nice kick to it. I will definitely be back for more (I apologize for not taking any pictures). During my second visit, I ordered the 'Dirty Chicken' with Jollof Rice and plantains, and it was just as tasty. The spice level was perfect, and I couldn’t resist trying the donuts along with the Ginger Beer again. Everything I had was truly enjoyable.
