First time visiting after receiving recommendation from a friend. Would return again now that I know where to park. The parking lot next to restaurant was less than expected but was at least close. Music played in restaurant wasn’t coinciding with the ambience- yet was over looked once seated. Food/drinks were good. A little pricey overall for the menu items.
We arrived early in the evening for pre-concert food and margaritas, and the dining room was about a quarter full. Despite this, it still took about 10 minutes to get a round of drinks after ordering them. The food was pretty good, though I do wish they would return to the way they used to make queso. It is pretty generic now. Service got worse and worse as the restaurant filled up more, though it really looked like they had an adequate number of servers. I dont know if they are really bad at time management or what, but at one point both bartenders were helping on the floor. After flagging down the server and requesting a last round of drinks and our check, making it clear we were trying to catch the next streetcar, we still sat and sat. Got drinks but no checks, even though we had credit cards out and ready to go. Missed the streetcar. To make matters worse, and what aggravated me the most, the drinks were weak. The house Cadillac margs were $3 more for a grand marnier float added, and there was no discernible liquor added (it is red-orange and the drink was just a cloudy yellow). I also ordered a guava margarita and the glass was packed so full of ice the drink was literally five sips. Yes, I counted. Unacceptable.
The food’s good. The Salmon Tamarind was perfect cooked all the way through with light sauce for flavor. However, dinner started a bit rocky when we ordered the Tableside Guacamole app: We thought it would be made at the table. She started preparing it at the bar added salt. When she brought it to us, we told her that we can’t eat salt she seemed peeved. She took it back to the bar area started preparing another one by adding lime then bringing it to us. We order Tablesiide Guac partly for the fun of watching it be made partly to influence the ingredients. Our previous visits have been great. We think (hope) this weird service issue was an anomaly
First timer to 1900 Mexican Grill with 2 friends we thoroughly enjoyed the service and especially the food. This Charlotte/Elizabeth gem is excelente! Great bar too!
