We went to celebrate something. I have driven past hundreds of times and having read the reviews was really looking forward. To be honest, we were both disappointed. The service was friendly and prompt so five stars on that! The decor was odd for a country pub... Turquoise and grey... A bit urban for our taste and the paper was peeling off the wall. The main feature of the room should have been the large open fire place but this was used as an advertising platform for cards etc. No problem with cards, but placing them somewhere else would be better and then show off the fireplace to maximum effect! The pool table looked out of place to us and some greenery in the form of plants would really soften the atmosphere too. Re the menu. There was not a huge selection for vegetarians and vegans. There was a non vegan dish labelled as vegan.. whoops!!! Not great for vegans or those with lactose intolerance. Bit of luck I checked!! My partner had the chicken which was good and I had the vegan shepherd's pie. It was OK... A lot of mash and not much of substance underneath... No vegan desserts either and my partner's favourite, crumble, all gone. Needless to say, we are not planning to return in a hurry. This is a real shame as it is only three miles from where I live. Reading other reviews it seems great for people passing through on foot or bike who want a quick but substantial snack, but for a dining out experience, it doesn't quite make it, in our opinion. Dietary restrictions: Some vegan and vegetarian options. One vegetarian option labelled wrongly as vegan. Parking: Near entrance which was down some steps.
Long wait for food. Even cuppa tea over an hour. Wasn't worth the wait. Not as good as no a few months ago no beer or larger Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £30–40 Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4
