Contribuiți la feedbackLocated just a two-minute walk from Kennington tube station on the bustling Kennington Park Road, The White Bear is a charming Young's pub that boasts an elegant atmosphere. Established in 1780, it is one of the oldest pubs in South London and was refurbished by Young's in 2016. The décor is tastefully done, featuring a central island bar with comfortable seating and intimate booths at the front. At the back, you'll find a spacious dining area that opens up to a good-sized beer garden. Additionally, there is an upstairs theatre, The White Bear Theatre, which has received numerous awards—check out their Instagram for details on upcoming shows. The beer selection is quite impressive; I tried a Pravha, which was excellent and reasonably priced at under £6. The food menu offers a range of British classics, with fish and chips priced at £18.50. The dining reviews are very positive, especially for their renowned Sunday roasts. On a pleasant Saturday afternoon, the pub had a welcoming atmosphere. I had a friendly conversation with the manager about Young's beers—he was personable and knowledgeable. Overall, @thewhitebearkennington is a classy, traditional pub that is easy on the eyes. While the prices may be higher, the quality of offerings justifies it. Kennington is an ideal spot for a relaxed pub crawl, and The White Bear should definitely be on your list. **Information accurate as of visit on 30/07/22.**
The ambiance was great—friendly and welcoming. I'm impressed that they offer children's portions for £10, and the desserts are a highlight! They also have a nice selection of non-alcoholic drinks. The place was quite crowded, but the gorgeous garden patio in the back provided a lovely escape. One of the standout features of this restaurant is the incredibly helpful, hardworking, and polite staff, who ensure that service remains smooth even when the place is packed. There’s also additional seating at the front. This was my third visit, and I've always felt comfortable here. While I’d happily dine alone, I usually come with a group. Thank you to the manager for taking the time to read my review. I plan to add more photos later. Perhaps the front could use more hanging baskets or greenery, like window boxes, to enhance its appeal? I also heard there's a theater upstairs showcasing "The Dom" soon. Looking forward to my next visit!
I visited for dinner and drinks with a friend, and the restaurant is absolutely stunning! The staff are friendly and very helpful. We ordered a few drinks along with two sharing plates and their famous burger.
Went here for a weekday lunch. I ordered the beef Wellington which was really nice and cooked perfectly. It was £30 a portion so thought it would have been nice for it to include some crispy parmentier potatoes on the side too. The gravy was ok but expected something a bit nicer to complement such a great dish.
Our impromptu Sunday lunch group booking was very kindly accommodated. The food here is sensational, and if we could have ordered one of every dish on the menu, we would have! The choice of wines, beers and spirits is excellent too. Service is exceptionally good. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We highly recommend The White Bear.
