The Duchess Tea Room

If you are looking for a refined experience, then The Bedford Room may not be the best choice for you. The room appears somewhat drab and, to be honest, in need of a good cleaning. During my visit, I was seated next to a windowsill that had a few dusty ornaments and cobwebs. While I understand that spiders can quickly spin webs during the summer, it was clear that this area had not been cleaned in some time. This lack of cleanliness made me question what else may be overlooked. Despite the disappointing surroundings, the afternoon tea itself was excellent. The sandwiches were generously filled, the scones were light and perfect, and there was a great selection of dairy-free cakes. The service was also good, and there was a wide variety of quality teas and other drinks available. Overall, I could have given a very good rating for the tea itself, but the cleanliness of the room really let the experience down. This is a simple fix that could greatly improve the overall dining experience.

We were surprised by the level of service we received at this restaurant for our afternoon tea reservation. The spread reminded us of a high-end hotel in London, with beautifully presented finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, shortbread, and cakes with cream and strawberries. The chef, who had cooked for the Queen, prepared the food, and even accommodated special diets and food allergies. The tea and coffee were plentiful, making for a delightful experience overall.

Had afternoon tea in the Bedford Room (Duchess Tea Rooms closed at this time of year. The room is lovely and bright with loads of natural light. The staff were very pleasant and the food tasty. We did have to ask for the tea pots to be replenished, this was not offered, but they were filled quickly for us. This is a good option for afternoon tea locally, especially as the price includes entry to the grounds and gardens.

The tea room is the perfect spot for enjoying afternoon tea after a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Woburn gardens. The café is very well-stocked, and the scones are absolutely delicious. I would suggest sitting outside, as you will be able to enjoy the view of a well-manicured lawn and beautiful plants and trees surrounding you. In the autumn, children love picking up conkers, which adds to the overall charm of the experience.

The tables set for afternoon tea looked lovely set with thick white tablecloths. The tables for lunch weren’t quite so nice. I found an empty but messy table and wiped it down myself with a paper napkin. The soup was nice, but the accompanying bread roll turned out to be sliced bread wrapped up in cling film. The tea room is convenient if you’re visiting Woburn, but you may be better bringing a picnic.
