Osteria Le Scalette

After a long year of closed restaurants and severe restrictions, coming back to Le Scallette was like coming back to a much missed home after a long journey away. Roberto Agnese could not be more welcoming and positive. The menu reflects local ingredients, incorporating lake fish, deer, wild boar , cinta sinese the flavorful white striped pig from Tuscany) and the delicate small multi-colored beans of Lake Trasimeno. I veered from my normal preferences and relied on Agnese to advise me. The Ravioli stuffed with Persico Luccio mild white lake fish) with a ragu that incorporated the slow food designated beans was delicious. Following this I had a stew of tender wild boar with porcini mushrooms . My partner in crime selected his favorite: pasta with a deer ragu followed with grilled meats. We were happy diners eating on the terrace with a view of the lake, while enjoying the hospitality of a couple dedicated to authentic Umbrian cuisine. I would be doing a great injustice if I didn't mention the distinguished selection of Italian wines. I highly recommend putting Le Scalette on your list of restaurants to visit while you are in the area.

This osteria just outside the old walls of Castiglione is worth a visit. They cook home made pasta with the local pig sausage, Cinta, and also have tagliata so strips of steak of the same. Very tasty. For once in Italy some vegetables come automatically with the secondi, meat or fish. Good choice of dishes, and great display of wines from Toscany and beyond.

Although it was busy we were made immediately welcome here. The food was excellent we had four different main courses and each was delicious. We would especially recommend the various wild boar dishes.

Locale legato alla tradizione molto amichevole e familiare, una vasta scelta di vini pregiati, sia la caccia che i pesci laghi eccezionali e dire poco. super consigliato!

Piccola trattoria con cucina casalinga con terrazza vista lago. Piatti tradizionali . Noi abbiamo ordinato pici al tartufo e al guanciale, grigliata mista di cinta senese con patate, salsiccia con patate e tocchetti al vin santo. Acqua minerale e 1 bottiglia da mezzo litro di Sagrantino tutto buonissimo. Molto cordiale e simpatica la signora che ci ha servito al tavolo.
