Antico Caffe' Tognini

In the heart of Tuscany there are many options for really good food and wine and I have been very fortunate to try quite a few. I found this place to be exceptional on many levels run by two brothers at the absolute top of their game in delivering first class service to visitors. From simplistic panini, sandwiches, and very good burgers to more refined and quite unique culinary specials (as in Octopus burgers) and an exquisite Pumpkin and shrimp dish, their approach to food service is remarkable, more so as good food is so plentiful in Italy. As a bar, great draught and bottled beer selection, an array of spirits to rival the best bars across cities in Europe and further afield and the staff are friendly, welcoming and well trained some very proficient in English and those who aren't will still provide an excellent service. And a really good vibe, sound system and it's totally buzzing on Friday and Saturday night, appealing to all ages. They have some really incredible wines, at prices that make them accessible to most people, and great value if you are from the UK. Bit of a hidden gem as not right in the centre but only 3 minutes walk. Highly recommend this place if you are in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana.

We visited here 2 or 3 times in a week for coffee or beers. A lovely setting, friendly staff. The (free) bar snacks are great They put on the football World Cup on match days without any issue Well worth looking this place out for a sundowner

Fantastic coffee and wine bar in Castelnuovo just across from the church and pizza. A great place for coffee and pastries or apperitivi.

LOcated in a quiet square across from the church, this Cafe is a delightful surprise in all aspects. There are some tables outside, but we decided to sit inside this time. The decor is tasteful and inviting and the service was impecable. A waitress who could speak English came to translate the menu, a nice selection of plates with local produce. There was also a kid menu different from the usual chicken nuggets and chips. Although my children did choose chicken with potatoes, it was real chicken and crispy freshly cooked potatoes! My husband and I visited Antico Caffe’ Tognini several times a day during our month long stay in the beautiful town of Castelnuovo. The cafe bar is situated in Piazza Duomo with lovely views of the mountains and opposite the church. There is seating both inside and out. The coffee here is the best by far in Castelnuovo such a high standard and we are coffee snobs. The pastries are fresh and delicious. In the evening they have a free buffet when you buy drinks and all of the food on offer is varied and delicious. We always ended up at Tognini’s for a night cap. They have a wide range of beers on tap and an extensive wine and spirit list. They make a fantastic spritzer. I also think what makes this cafe/ bar is the wonderful staff who are all amazingly friendly, cheerful and efficient they go over and beyond to make your experience a enjoyable and memorable one.
