Very windy in Southern Spain this week and Casares is no different. In the centre of town is El Meson de Casares, a few metres from the main town square and a welcome retreat from the wind, most restaurants/tapa's bars were closed as it was 4pm, so finding Meson de Casares open was a bonus. You enter through a café type area which was quite scruffy and had lots of used cup and plates which had not been picked up. When you walk to the to the rear of the restaurant which is a different section, it is much nicer. We decided on tapa's and sangria which turned out to be a wise choice. The tapa's was very tasty but the portion size was very small. Would we go back? Casares has lot's of other restaurants which we would like to explore................
El Meson de Casares is a nice, local place. Authentic and friendly. Too bad there are no half stars allowed, because it definitely deserves more than just three. It is right int eh middle of Casares and serves local food. Things you would expect in Andalusia tapas, gazpacho, sea food and a lot of cured meats. One negative is that in order to be seated you have to go through deli like entrance with a few people smoking. Hard to avoid them. Otherwise the place seems to be clean, the service is friendly and the food is above average. One of the best places to eat in Casares.
