Abuelo's - Carmel

The first thing that impresses you here is the atmosphere; the decor and layout are thoughtfully designed, which distinguishes this establishment as an upscale Mexican restaurant. The menu is extensive, featuring many traditional items as well as some unexpected choices. I tried the Sautéed Chicken Zucchini lunch special, and it was quite flavorful. Although the zucchini was slightly overcooked, the sauce and chicken were excellent. Prices are a bit higher than what you’d find at a typical Mexican place, but I guess they need to cover the costs of all those beautiful decorations and lighting.

Abuelo's is currently my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in Indianapolis. This Texas-based chain truly delivers when it comes to the food. They provide three types of salsa, including a roasted habañero as a standard option, so you don't even need to request the spicy one. The entrees are well-prepared Tex-Mex dishes, and they feature some delightful twists, such as seasoned mashed potatoes and jalapeño poppers. The service is outstanding as well, particularly if you have Cedric as your server!

Considering we spent over $100 on drinks, appetizers, and main courses for four people, I feel we would be better off dining elsewhere. While the food is always delicious, the service leaves much to be desired. This marks our third consecutive visit with disappointing service, and I doubt we will return again. Our last visit was to celebrate a birthday, which is especially disheartening. I’m truly saddened by this experience and will be taking our celebrations elsewhere in the future.

I loved the chicken nachos. Single chips and chicken. Cheese was great and margaritas good too. Funny, up north they didn't know what a Texas Margarita was.

Food was delicious, good portions and flavor, the margaritas are so good. The atmosphere was beautiful inside and everything was very clean. The customer service is very good we had the bartender this afternoon. He was super helpful and nice.
