L' Ostal des Troubadours - Carcassonne

Five of us called in for lunch on a very hot, very bust August day in Carcassone. We had a selection of items from the menu, most of which were fine but nothing special. The wood fired chicken was very dry. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Malgré le cadre atypique et les prix plutôt bas, les serveuses ne sont pas très agréables et les plats manquent de qualité (autant au niveau des produits que de la présentation). Je ne connais pas bien la cité médiévale mais je pense qu'il vaut mieux s'éloigner des rues principales (près de l'entrée du château et des remparts) pour trouver un petit restaurant moins atypique mais où l'on mange mieux..

Tous les plats que nous avions commandés étaient très bons. Les prix sont tout à fait raisonnables, surtout pour le lieu. La cour intérieure est sympa et un peu "hors du temps". Le service était très agreable, nous avons eu 2 serveuses très aimables. Aussi, la cuisine est ouverte assez tard (on nous a accepté peu avant 22h)

We visited as a family of 5 - and opted for an early lunch (since, as we all know - the locals tend to congregate en-mass at 13:00!) - and were therefore fortunate to occupy the only 6 place table on the Ground Floor (there may have been more space upstairs?). This restaurant has a quirky ambience: clearly an ancient structure with many large beams - and a fair selection of curios and other items all over the walls. Many of the dishes are prepared over an open fireplace at one end of the Dining Area - but you wouldn't want to be too close to it, on a Hot Summer's Day! Service was good, and the bill reasonable for a tourist site. Just a note for vegetarians: their interpretation includes fish... There was also a talented guitarist, who serenaded us with Spanish numbers for the second half of the meal (although personally, not a huge fan of the 'singing from bottom of a well' echo-overkill setting) - and who passed round a tips bowl and offering his CD at the end of his set. Would we return? Probably not - but only because there is such a wide choice of other places to try - not due to any particular deficiencies of this establishment. Basically - a 7/10 kind of place.

Typique même atypique , un cadre surprenant original à voir ! Les menus abordables les assiettes bien garnis et un cassoulet du pays très bon et bien copieux, des plats cuits dans la cheminée donnent un gout très appréciable!... le service agréable la musique de fond par un vrai musicien ça change, retour au moyen âge! ce fut original
