I'm still shaken by my experience at Hemingway's restaurant in Cape May. Despite being a nationally recognized Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) forensic advocate, I was turned away with my service dog on the last night of my vacation. I spoke with the manager, after A kind woman named Lynn explained to the manager what happened to us, When the manager called me he offered me a meal, but this gesture felt disingenuous after the trauma I experienced. As someone who works tirelessly with families across the country, even on vacation, I was looking forward to a rare moment of relaxation. Instead, I was left feeling embarrassed and traumatized. The offer of a meal would require me to return to the same place where I was mistreated, causing further distress. Not to mention that I would have to drive hours away just to eat a meal! I wrote back to Lynn, but no one has responded. It's appalling that a business would violate disability rights, causing harm to someone like myself, and then offer a half-hearted apology! Do better!!!
We went for my birthday. My Rib-eye and hubby's salmon were cooked to perfection. Thank you staff for the awesome service and free desert. The apple pie was delicious. Definitely will be back on our yearly visit ti Capy
It isn’t as well rated as Harry’s, but it wins in every way except views of the beach. The food was fresh and tasty. Well seasoned. The drinks were good. It was cheaper than Harry’s, but much tastier. Our server, Grace, was really nice. We really appreciated how attentive she was. The berries on our salads and ice cream were outstanding. The lobster Mac was delicious. The crab cakes were perfect, the steak was good.
I recently dined here and I must say I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience. I ordered the fried seafood platter, expecting a fresh, flavorful meal that would showcase the best of what this coastal town has to offer. Unfortunately, that was far from the case. The most glaring issue was the coconut shrimp included in the platter. Not only was it completely out of place in a traditional fried seafood dish, but the shrimp itself was clearly store-bought and disappointingly small—about the size of my thumb. It’s baffling that a seafood restaurant would resort to using such subpar, pre-packaged items, especially when fresh local seafood is readily available. For the price I paid, I expected much more. The inclusion of coconut shrimp was confusing and did not belong on a platter that should have highlighted the quality and variety of local fried seafood. Sadly, this experience left much to be desired, and I won’t be returning anytime soon. Service was great from bar service to table service, but food was just disappointing.
