Cafe Essen - Canberra

Great menu options and specials for vegans or gluten/lactose intolerant diners. Warm and unpretentious venue, children welcome. Food was yummier and quicker to the table than some more expensive cafes. I would eat here again!

Cafe Essen is an unassuming small restaurant in Civic, the staff are friendly and the location is convenient for anyone scouring the mall. I was fooled by the name, the cuisine couldn't have been further from German food! I opted for the mexiburger, a vegan meal packed with flavour. The pattie was made from a mixture of beans and corn chips coupled with a variety of spices. The meal was filling and the price was great. Definitely worth a visit!

Went to get cakes and it was an okay selection. Could do with more cheese-less options for the lactose intolerant :) service was great!!!!!!

Reminds me of what Melbourne 10 years ago. Simple food minus pretentious venue and Instagram worthy pics. Mediterranean omelette was quite filling and coffee was very good.

Really enjoyed the food and service here. Very convenient location and friendly staff made our morning so much better. Coffee was great too.
