Contribuiți la feedbackWaiter was very nice to check with the kitchen if they could accomodate for my requests. I had the Lemon rice with mutton stew. And a mango lassi to finish. Good was great. Service was even better. Thanks!
Food was really good and would be perfect for an intimate dinner (2-4 people) however the restaurant just didn't cope with our group of 20 (which we prebooked and had the banquet menu). Staff were generous and quick on the drinks but the kitchen was pretty slow and under catered for our number
When my friend described this place as Indian street food, I dismissed it in my mind as some chaat place or something like that. But when I saw the name I knew it was a little unusual (my friend couldn't recall the name). Katthito is another name for cutty rolls (chappathi wraps with spicy meat and veg fillings), which is both a snack people make at home and street food in India. When I looked at the menu I was surprised to see mostly Kerala dishes on the menu. So we ordered beef 'cutlets' (croquettes), erachi puttu (steamed coconut rice cakes with beef curry), appam (hoppers) and goat stew, paratha and aviyal (mixed vegetables in a coconut preparation). The beef cutlets were a little disappointing. Although well fried they contained mincemeat. Good beef cutlets in India have shredded beef meat rather than mincemeat, less potato and a smidgen more minced ginger and curry leaves, which make a big difference to taste and texture. Overall it rated a 3. The other dishes however, were quite excellent. The puttu was beautiful and soft in texture and well presented as a small mound surrounded by a moat of beef curry (I ruined that by jumping in and eating before photos could be taken), and the beef curry was quite good - more wet and less spicy and flavourful than what I'm used to, but overall the dish rated a 4. The appam and goat stew was excellent. The goat was cooked perfectly tender on the bone with a beautiful thick mild and flavourful coconut milk stew and the appams were soft and freshly made (edges could have been a little crispier). Overall the dish rated a 4.5 The paratha was perfect, not oily, just beautifully thick and fluffy as it should be. Aviyal is a mixture of seasonal vegetables in a subtle coconut and turmeric preparation. This was also done very well and rated a 4.5. This is authentic Kerala food if you are looking for it in Canberra. The dosas on the neighbouring tables also looked good. So far Canberra is impressing me with its food!

Binny's is my favourite Indian place in Braddon. . .or anywhere. Service is friendly and genuine, food is unusual (i.e. not standard rogan josh, etc.) but always delicious, and price is reasonable. If you're not sure what to order, just ask, and Binny or his wait staff will happily explain dishes. New items are regularly added to the menu, including shots, which were surprisingly delicious (I'm not super adventurous, and for once I prefered the non-alcoholic one). Definitely worth a try.
