I needed some help with luggage, and staff went out of their way to make that work. My room was comfortable but unremarkable and had a close-up view of the train station roof. Breakfast was very good in the charmingly historic Booking Office, but I regretted that the hotel no longer has an upscale dining venue for dinner. The front desk no cash policy made it difficult to change larger bills in order to tip staff appropriately. The neighborhood is great, especially with the British Library just around the corner. All in all, this is a very convenient hotel for many purposes in an historic edifice of a building but expect to pay for the location and historic environment more than for first-class amenities.
My wife and I were really looking forward to a night away. We had to fight to get a double bed, as they told us we’d be in single beds even though we’d booked a deluxe room, with a double bed. Staff were not friendly. Service at breakfast was slow. A few items weren’t there and we had to wait a long time for the food to come out.
We have stayed repeatedly at the St. Pancras Renaissance every time we have come to London by now seven or eight visits and we will continue to come back. The hotel has a magnificent setting, and rooms are beautiful the larger ones are sumptuous. There is an additional advantage of close proximity to the King's Cross St. Pancras tube station. which has service from many of the lines you can get anywhere is greater London with ease. We recommend it for anyone who is not on a budget. But be aware that the pandemic has prompted some cutbacks in the previous 5 star service. The fine dining restaurant, The Gilbert Scott, is closed. They have done away with their concierge desk, so you have less help with your tourist needs and with local recommendations. The hotel has adopted a no cash policy, so if you want to change bills to leave tips, you have to go to banks on Tottenham Court Road a 20 to 25 minute walk away. Room service seems a bit overworked and understaffed. But there is still excellent daily housekeeping, laundry service is perfect, bell service is prompt and heads up, and the front desk is unfailingly helpful and kind. By all means stay here, but don't expect a true 5 star experience.
Had the pleasure of indulging in afternoon tea at the Hansom located in the lobby of the beautiful St Pancras Hotel. Although somewhat pricey, the amount of food served was quite substantial and included a selection of delicious sandwiches, sweets and scones with sweet cream and jam. The service was impressive. Our server Mihaela was wonderful, attentive to our every need. Definitely recommend.
We had stayed at The Renaissance sometime ago and were looking forward to a return visit. Our disappointment started immediately we walked up the footpath. This was strewn with litter. This may not be Renaissance litter but as its on their steps and surrounding area this should be cleaned regularly. There was not a doorman present until we got into the building having negotiated the steps with our luggage. The entrance hall is a beautiful part of this ancient building but the entrance carpet has huge stains on it. Check in did not improve things. It was either swap over time or new staff being trained. Either way we waited a while and there were very few people waiting to register. Our room was as expected. Large and spacious. Lots of multi use plugs. However the TV kept going off and on the whole evening and eventually we switched it off completely. The morning did not improve. The bathroom lights would not work and after ringing customer service 3 times and no one answering they eventually called us back and sent an electrician. Apparently a trip switch had clicked off outside our room. The bathroom floor had two cracked tiles and mould around the shower end of the bath. The rubber seal on the shower door and the hinges all need a good clean. We decided to have breakfast in the dining room as it is such a glorious room. My husband ordered Eggs Benedict and this was a disappointment. The eggs were cold and overcooked. The bun was hardly toasted and i think the ham had been taken straight out of the fridge. The waitress took this off our bill. As we left no one offered to carry our luggage down the steps. We would like to think that this was a one off but sadly will not be returning.
