They went out of their way to accommodate dietary needs and gave just the perfect amount of attention. The Dosas are to die for and the masala chai was the best I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to return.
If you are familiar with the television show Fawlty Towers, then imagine a similar experience at Balti Towers. Unfortunately, there is nothing positive to say about this restaurant. The service was poor, the food was of low quality, and to make matters worse, items were added to our bill that we did not order. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, they said they would correct the bill, but upon further examination, the total still did not add up. After three attempts, the staff reluctantly made adjustments to the bill. Overall, the staff was rude, the food was unpleasant, and the experience was disappointing. It is best to avoid this restaurant at all costs.
This was my second visit to the restaurant with a group of friends for dinner. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my choice of starter and main courses. The Hariyali chicken starter was bland, and the Chef's special Chicken Malai tikka main was tasteless and not moist enough. Both dishes were uninspiring and overpriced at £12.90 each. The rest of the starters were basic dishes like bhelpoori, aloo paprika chat, and samosas. Another main dish, the Chef's special Kashmiri Rogan Josh, was served in a small bowl and also charged at a high price of £12.50. The service was friendly, but there was a long wait for the food to arrive.
This is one of the worst restaurants in terms of food quality, service and staff attitude. The staff is the biggest turn off. They are very rude and unprofessional and will make you feel you made a mistake going there. Food is equally bad. They served us stale food with bad taste. You cant know what cuisine it is because honestly it tastes nothing like any cuisine. Burn your money but dont go there.
Chutneys offers a great vegetarian lunch buffet. It is one of a small number of restaurants on Drummond Street doping so, and a fraction cheaper than some of the better known names, but the food is every bit as good and offers excellent value. There's a good selection of cold salads often centred round pulses with warm onion bhajis and roti to start the roti were the only slightly disappointing part of the whole meal as they were a little tough ! . Main dishes includes lentils, chickpeas, mushrooms and cauliflower in distinctive curries, with rice and a good selection of pickles. And there's also dessert with milk jellies and a nice variety of fresh fruit. I had a sparkling lemon and mint drink made to order not from a can it was very nice too, but slightly expensive. But they will just provide you with tap water, and also sell lassis. Note that it's not vegan I heard another diner ask which dishes were, and most were not vegan as many contain yoghurt or ghee. But for vegetarians it's great! Note that the buffet is not served at weekends, I believe.
