Fernandes Fish Market - Cambridge

It was great to visit this fish market again after a year. I used to stop by every few days to grab some fried fish for lunch. The fish market also functions as a small grocery store where locals pick up Portuguese food and products. I've heard that the fish is delivered from Tuesday to Saturday each week, although it seems that sometimes deliveries start on Wednesday.

The staff at this restaurant are incredibly kind! During my first visit, I was warmly welcomed by an older gentleman who was both friendly and helpful. On my second visit, I realized I didn’t have cash for my cheese, only my debit card, and unfortunately, they don't accept cards. I mentioned I would quickly run to my car to get the cash. A different gentleman from my first visit told me not to worry and that I could pay next time. I was surprised by his trust; you don't often encounter that these days. This speaks volumes about the store's overall atmosphere. They treat their customers like family and friends, which is likely a big reason they've been around for so long. Their prepared Portuguese food is incredible! It can be difficult for me to get to Cambridge frequently, but if you're local, you should definitely try their spicy marinated pork and fried fish, which look like larger sardines. Their bread is delicious too, and don't forget to try the custard pies! I did end up going back inside to pay with cash.

The customer service is terrible. The staff member is quite rude and often slams my fish down on the counter. I can't help but feel there may be some bias, but I can't be sure. It's a shame because the fish itself is good. Additionally, he mentioned that he doesn't accept tips.

The fried fish here is excellent, and they offer a wide variety of Portuguese cheeses.
