Sake Club - Calumet-Norvelt

We just stopped by on a whim for a sushi snack on a late Thursday evening. We ordered a few tapas style dishes and a side of rice. The service was a bit slow my friend had to ask three times for a beer. But I 'm still dreaming about the great dishes I had, in particular the tuna tartar, an eel and avocado dish, and the sake tamaago roll. I made a mistake in ordering the Apple Martini, tasted and looked like a powdered mix with a hardly any alcohol.

I thought that my first experience there was great. Even though I did not eat inside, I was given curb side service as if I was sitting in the restaurant. I enjoyed the food and look forward to going back. I even told several people about the food. See you real soon.

I will never go back to this restaurant again!!! I was there today during a lazy Friday afternoon for lunch. We sat outside and there were not more than 4 tables occupied at any one time. Nobody was sitting inside. The service was just horrible. I dined with two friends who received their lunches in a semi-prompt fashion. When I asked the waitress if my lunch was coming out, she assured me it was. 5 minutes later and no lunch, a different waiter comes out to verify my order. Oooops, obviously the waitress forgot to put my order in! 10 minutes later, long after my dining mates had finished, my order showed up and the waitress finally apologized, blaming it on a mix up in the kitchen . Those poor kitchen guys- they take all the blame! She also brought out on order of edamame on the house. Too little too late. She should have come to explain what was going on right away, and brought the edamame while my friends were eating, not when my lunch finally came. To add insult to injury, when the bill came, I was overcharged 2 dollars for my lunch. We brought the error to the waiter’s attention, and after what seemed like a 5 minute pow-wow with the manager, they fixed it. When my friend expressed her displeasure with the service and they way the whole thing was handled, he acted like he had done us a favor by taking 2 dollars off the bill that shouldn 't have been there in the first place. He refused to just take that portion of lunch off the bill. Bottom line, I will never go back to this restaurant again. The food was good, but not THAT good!!!

Sake Club looks unlike any other Japanese Restaurant in DC. Great food, atmosphere and attentive service.
