7th St Hill Cafe - Calumet-Norvelt

I went into this cafe for the first time today while perusing the Eastern Market festivities. The male cashier just stared at me blankly, instead of owning his position and offering a greeting like Good morning, what can I get started for you? . Something to show he was ready to take my order. And when I asked my sandwich to go, the woman rolled her eyes, like it was really a problem. Really? Based on customer interaction alone, I won 't patronize this place again.

Glad to have a place to plop down, plug-in, work, have coffee, and people-watch next to a window in a non-pretentious and affordable place near Eastern Market. However, the negative reviews about the service and offerings resonate with me: grumpy, inattentive service over mediocre coffee and pastries. The older man and woman working the counter were having a drawn-out argument about work schedule that was slightly annoying, but somewhat endearing when you later realize it's a love-hate relationship. It's hard to complain when the place does the job when you walk away from the counter and find a seat to work. Besides, the Pan Quotidien and Starkbucks nearby seem worse.

Told the woman taking orders at the counter light ice and the older man filled the cup up with ice. Not sure if she understood what that means or if the older man (owner? just didn 't want to fulfill the request. $6+ for mostly ice. Never returning. Neither one of them was friendly at all! Bad service. We will stick to Starbucks down the street.

The food is exceptional and the staff is very pleasant and quick with the food. <3 I got a turkey and cheese on brioche, blueberry donut, and Chai latte. Also they don't seem to have a problem if you want to bring your own cup. :Dietary restrictions: Has options for dairy free beverages and vegetarian

NEVER AGAIN! The Asian guy behind the counter had the nastiest disposition this morning. He acted as if I was a hinderance to his job. My first time visiting and I absolutely regret it. The food wasn't even up to par. What a peasant!! Not getting my business ever again!!
