JOEY Chinook - Calgary

We went for a birthday and wedding anniversary dinner with 7 people. The service was prompt and the waitress was attentive and made sure we were satisfied.The appetizers: calamari (average, good), flat bread (average, good), and sweet potatoe fries (yam) - above average.The mains: paella - smallish portion, but good, above average. Full of seafood and like the oven finishing to make a crunchy top. The salmon rice bowl was good, the harvest chicken salad was a very good size, and was above average. The sirloin steak is a good portion, 7 oz, grilled to the requisite medium/medium rare and is easily shared with two young kids. The tuna salad (seared tuna) was good - spicy, a surprise.The molten chocolate cake was above average and the apple pie with ice cream was average . Bit of a chewy crust.Overall, average to slightly above average. Nice ambience. Very clean rest rooms.Would try again some time.

Went here after their renovation for my son's birthday and the food was sooo good. I can't wait to go back.

I met two friends there for lunch. It was a convenient place to meet up. I ordered just wings and they were a bit pink inside. Gross. I didn't bother sending them back, but when the waiter took my nearly uneaten food back and didn't question my not wanting it in a take out container, I thought that was a bit weird. The other two in my party seemed to enjoy their meals and really enjoyed a chocolate lava cake. It's a nice place but over priced in my opinion. I wouldn't recommend it.

The food is still good but since the renovation the restaurant is extremely noisy now. They try to make it louder with the music which only makes it worse. They took out the wall that seperated the bar from the dining room which did make it brighter but now you can barely have a conversation with your guests. The salmon was very nice, the steak frites was okay. I think the food is not as good as it was prior to the renovation, but that seems the case with a lot of restaurants these days. The beef sandwhich and the butter chicken were good as well. I always think the overall feel or ambiance of a restaurant is almost as important as the food and service and it seems most restaurants miss that part of the package.

The fish tacos and the paella are excellent. Can be noisy and crowded, make a reservation if desired. Rooftop is great on a sunny day.
