When i heard that Kate Hudson called this blessed spot on the planet "just ridiculously luxurious" i almost negated a proposed visit. Be that as it may, i recanted and guess what?.... it is and more... especially the rivalry by the island's stunning natural beauty. Gob-smacked we idled in the rainforest that tumbles down rugged hillsides, swam in idyllic rocky bays that shimmer with crystalline blue begging to be explored. The resort just takes your breath away. Boardwalks meander through thickets of eucalypt and acacia, revealing tantalising glimpses of sparkling ocean while simultaneously making our presence private ensconced in our chic beachside pavilions. Opening the sliding glass doors we inhale the soft scent of the sea while sipping champers on our daybed watching the colours dance across the water as the sunset bathes the sky in soft pinks and lavender blues. We walked, swam, snoozed lazily in the warm sun and blew as many kisses to each other that was decent to do in public. Our lungs never tired of breathing below the water's surface watching giant clams over a metre wide cluster just off-shore, their jewel-like colours shimmering like the contents of an underwater treasure chest..Its easy to fall in love here... all you need is to be here.... "with your better half", quipps the femme.ps. The food is superb, rivalling the oceanic bounty on our plates. Fish, in fact whole fish rather than slivers kept us sate and gestating wonderful platitudes to staff and management for a terrific four day sojourn. pps. Special thanks for my wonderful massages at the finale of dives.
Unbelievably lucky to have spent a couple of days here - I would love to go back but even if I never manage to I'll count myself fortunate. It's a beautiful coral island in the Coral Sea, with an interior that supports palm trees and fruit bats and lots of birds. And of course, beautiful lizards. There's even a longstanding research station for the Great Barrier Reef. There are numerous bays around the island, each with its own character and, if you were lucky enough to stay longer you could visit each, as well as taking a trip to the outer reef. There's history too, Capt Cook climbed to the high point here to try to see a way out of the barrier reef. And poor Mary Watson fled from here on her doomed trip after the island was attacked. The Watson's cottage is still visible but was almost destroyed in the storms that have damaged the island in recent years. We were still ware of the aftermath of the storms (the resort has had to be rebuilt, twice, and some of the vegetation is damaged). Some of the coral is bleached but, when snorkelling, the gorgeous fish are still plentiful and there are relaxed turtles to swim with. It's easy to swim out to the coral from the beach - the staff whizz you round to an empty beach and leave you with cold water, towels etc, then pick you up at a designated time. The food is fabulous - our daughter is a vegetarian and had her own printed menu at night, and there's a great selection of wines. The staff are wonderful - nothing is too much trouble, and we saw one of the best sunsets ever (from Sunset bay of course) - bliss!
This will be probably one of the most clever decisions in your life, as soon as you decide to go for it.Gentle staff, awesome bedrooms, delicious food and amazing dives. You don't dive? Nice opportunity to start, talk to Dave and he will do everything to bring you to the blue world.Already a certificate diver ? Very good!! Prepare your gear and go find out the Cod Hole, one of the most famous dive sites in Queensland.
