We ordered the fried rice and it was delicious! The other dish was also fantastic! It was enough food for two people to enjoy.
During my 2014 trip to Vietnam, I spent 3 months exploring the country. Upon returning to Cairns, I was thrilled to discover a new Vietnamese restaurant opened in my neighborhood. Ven, the owner, and his wife Anne, who are both from Ho Chi Minh City, are skilled cooks who also prepare Korean and other Asian dishes. I recently visited with a large group and everyone was impressed with the food. I hope the local community will support this business so we can continue enjoying their delicious cuisine and friendly service for years to come. This hidden gem of a restaurant is a true delight in our neighborhood.
My extended family and I visited Pho Ven's based on my niece's recommendation, who is a regular customer. Upon arrival, the restaurant seemed more like a departure. Luckily, we were able to find space for all 10 of us inside. However, my mother-in-law was disappointed to learn that they do not cook food to order, which meant that many of their menu items were pre-made. The restaurant was run by a man and a woman, leading to long wait times for food and our orders coming out sporadically. My father-in-law finished his main course before we even received our appetizers! The food was decent, the staff were friendly, and the prices were good. Overall, it was an average experience.
Staying at the nearby Coconut Resort , off the Bruce Hwy near the Cairns Golf course we walked a few hundred meters to the local shopping centre and noticed this family run resturant, deciding to come back for dinner that evening and we're glad we...did. It masquarades as a fast food place and yes you can phone in your order to pick up to eat at home and we noticed lots of locals doing just that but you can also eat in sitting on usual cafe chairs and tables. But they even had wine glasses for our purchase from the bottleshop next door! The two of us shared one entree and two mains. First four home made sping rolls, crisp and tasty. Next a seafood Tom Yum soup and then a Thai Red Curry with chicken. Everything was freshly cooked tasty and excellent value for money. The whole meal cost less than $30 for both of us and we were very full. Most people dont visit places not located in central Cairns but it is worth a visit for a tasty, filling meal. Good value and great taste.
