Cairns RSL

Very disappointed with the quality of the food and the service. the food took ages to come. The entrees and the mains were served at the same time. I had the roast it was tasteless and cold. Very over priced for what we got

On our several trips to Australia, we have been introduced to the Returned & Services League of Australia (RSL). This unique, interconnected system of locations around the country always provided an option for food and beverage most anywhere in Australia. We found RSL locations consistently good. The RSL Social Club in Cairns was no exception. As luck would have it, we were staying at the DoubleTree directly across the street from Cairns RSL. Not unexpected, the restaurant and bar were quite busy. Although technically RSL locations are private and for members only, visitors with proper ID can register as guests. Unfortunately, by the time we finally arrived for dinner, some of the specials were already sold out, but their menu offered many other choices. The food servings were very generous, and the pricing reasonable.

Some of the staff were super lovely and others should not be working in hospitality. Food was average pub style. Chicken parmigiana uninspired. Kids meal was supposed to come with activities according to the website but didn't. Not businesses fault but I was bemused to find the entire restaurant dining room stand to attention mid meal for the last post at 6pm. RSL protocol I guess. The recorded announcer thanked us for our attention and hoped we enjoy the "balance of our evening" but a heads up would be nice prior to the strains of the military horn.

Looked forward to supporting RSL. Decided to take our son on his day off.Found some staff uninterested. Wine expensive. Couldn't get a salad. But coleslaw could be served with calamari.(extra cost of 4.50) worst coleslaw ever. Bland cabbage and carrot. Disappointed in meal. Would not come again. Nice coffee

Basic pub food, nothing special.Avoid the garlic pizza. A single piece made my eyes water from the psychotic amount of garlic and I LOVE garlic.There's nothing wrong with most of the food, but it's certainly not special. Better than Cazaly's, not as good as the **** and Bull.Go back factor, low.
